I would give Halelea Family Medicine 6 stars if I could. I have been vacationing to Kauai for 8 years now, and always feel relieved that there is such a wonderful health care provider on the North Shore. The office staff are warm, the clinic clean, and tI've always been treated so wonderfully. The doctors remind me of what medicine should be like in this country. They don't rush you in and out of the room, but actually sit with you, listen to your concerns, and diagnose your ailments. I've gone in for stitches after cutting my foot on the reef as well as issues with a longterm illness that reared up while on vacation. It was a relief to be able to be seen, diagnosed, cared for, fixed up, and back on the beach without having to spend the entire day driving to the hospital on the other side of the island. I read the negative reviews and have to say I'm honestly shocked. It seems their only flaw is that they close for lunch. People in pain always feel it is their right to be seen immediately. And understandably so. However coming from a home where my own father was a doctor, there is always someone in pain, and never a moment to take a break.
Why this clinic is so special is all the doctors take their time with each patient and often prescribe a blend of western medical approaches with alternative healing modalities. Hale Lea is a tremendous resource to the entire population on the north shore and really for the island as a whole.
Changing a star rating on my original review. I want to recognize the efforts made by the manager of the facility following up with us after the review was posted. She carefully listened to our story, apologized for the experience and tried her best to make things right for us. We had a bad experience with the facility when we needed to get a relatively deep cut treated on the finger of our 2-year old son. We felt like nobody cared about the little boy covered in blood and a crying mom. We didn't have a chance to see a physician and felt like the nurses and a PA providing the help were not confident enough treating the baby and made a couple of mistakes. I am sure the management will make the proper adjustments to their process.
I live on the N. Shore of Kauai, and for over 20 years have been going to the Hale Le'a Family Medicine and Urgent Care Clinic in Kilauea for my medical needs. Their doctors, medical assistants, nurses and support staff are superb. From regular check ups, to diagnosis, to maintenance of evolving medical needs, to urgent care, I have always received prompt, competent, and compassionate care from the clinic. The doctors have always taken their time to explain all medical issues and go thoroughly over lab test results, and patiently answer all my questions. I would highly recommend Hale Le'a Family Clinic.
This small country clinic specializes in the art of healing. The modest clinic building houses some of the best doctors on the island, hands down. My wife suffers from a neurological condition and after years of seeing experts across the country her condition continued to be misdiagnosed. It took the care of the Doctors of Hale Lea to figure out what the real issue was and get her on the path of true healing. It felt nothing short of miraculous.
Visiting your lovely island from AZ and much to my dismay, found myself in need of a doctor. I called the day before to ask some questions and walked in the next day. Great experience with reception, nurse and doctor. Mahalo!
